"Another Town Know as Katecmy"
A ring of the small bell hanging on the old door alerted Mr. Charles. What can I do you for Sam? Sam was a 10 year old boy that lived within bike riding distance of The Store. His dad was Alfred Corwin the town’s first and only postman. Sam was thought of as true country boy for the most part and stayed out of eye sight in order to keep out of trouble. He had red hair that stayed short and a freckled covered face. He was an average height for a 10 year old and skin and bones. Not because he didn’t eat well but that was just a family trait that was passed down to him. He had been called names like knobby knees before, but that didn’t really matter to him. He was proud of the muscles he had been trying to put on and didn’t need the approval from some fat knit wit boy that he was doing a ok job.
This was the only general store for at least 40 miles from the small town of Katemcy and it was properly called “The Store”. The Store had all the things that a person would need in this small town from mending fence to taking care of a sweet tooth.
Sam visited the store at least 3 times a week. He would normally come in on Monday gather the things that his mother needed and the two other visits were purely for his own reasons. Today Sam was looking for something special. Something that would keep him interested for the better part of this hot summer day. He had brought with him a case of empty coke bottles to use as his wagering for whatever item he wanted.
Sam walked through the store and picked up and few things and headed to the counter. Mr. Charles accepted his case of empty coke bottle for a handful of assorted flavored hard candy, a roll of string, and box of matches. Sam said thank you and left the store.
Mr. Charles took the empty coke bottles and placed them behind the store with some others to be picked up. A nickel a piece was the value of the glass and most people saved their bottles to exchange for the money.
Sam waited patiently for his plan to unfold. His patience paid off and he saw Mr. Charles place the cokes at the back door behind the store. Sam aimed his bike in the direction and took back the case of cokes and head off. Fist pumping in the air Sam committed an act of robbery that sent him into a rush.
